Jõhvi (Vaivara subcamp)
SubcampIda-Virumaa1943–1944
Jõhvi was a Nazi German concentration-camp subcamp in Ida-Viru County, part of the Vaivara system (1943–1944).
Forced labour and fate
Most of the prisoners were Jews brought from the Vilna and Kovno ghettos; they built among other things a military hospital, a railway and roads, and worked in a sawmill. In 1944 the camp was liquidated together with the whole Vaivara system; survivors were taken to the Stutthof concentration camp or killed.
