Auvere (Vaivara subcamp)
SubcampIda-Virumaa1943–1944
Auvere was a Nazi German concentration-camp subcamp in Ida-Viru County, part of the Vaivara system (1943–1944).
Forced labour and fate
Most of the prisoners were Jews brought from the Vilna and Kovno ghettos; they were forced to work building defence works on the Narva front. Auvere lay about 10 km east-south-east of Vaivara, on the railway between Vaivara and Narva. In 1944 the camp was liquidated together with the whole Vaivara system; survivors were taken to the Stutthof concentration camp or killed.
